The Power of Stories

By sharing your stories, you will help communicate a contemporary view of who nurses are, what we do and how we contribute our expertise and caring to healing, wellness and health promotion, in every setting where health care is delivered and where people are who need care.

We encourage you to capture the spirit of nursing excellence and compassion through the written and spoken word, video and photography.

CAPTURING INSPIRING MOMENTS

Regardless of one’s role, specialty or practice setting, each day, nurses make a difference in people’s lives and have inspiring stories to share. During Year of the Nurse, ANA wants to celebrate nurses through their authentic storytelling that conveys achievements, inspirations and challenges. We encourage nurses to share stories that showcase:

  • How you make a difference with patients, in your practice setting or your community
  • How you mentored new nurses or a how a nurse inspired you
  • How you want to impact the future of nursing
  • How an experience reaffirmed your career choice
  • How you created meaningful change in your organization
  • How you are improving patient care
  • Your most defining moment in nursing
  • Your unique journey to a nursing career
  • What being a nurse means to you
  • Why diversity is important to the future of nursing

How to Create Your Video

  • Video Specs: Digital stories are usually short with the recommended length of two minutes. Make sure you record in high-definition video (1920 x 1080); if you use an HD camera set the video to shoot at 1080p.
  • Delivery: Speak clearly, in a strong and confident voice and make good eye contact with the camera.
  • Filming: Do a test video to ensure adequate lighting. Use a tripod or make sure the camera operator maintains a still position.
  • Saving your video: Save your video file as an .MP4, .MPEG, .AVI or .MOV file.
