The Power of Stories

Sponsored by: Moxie Scrubs

Sharing your experiences through storytelling is empowering. Nurses’ stories are especially powerful because they are informative, inspirational, and healing. The reality nurses face today, makes storytelling even more important to the profession and the future of nursing.

Regardless of your role, specialty or practice setting, each day, you make a difference in people’s lives and have meaningful stories to tell. By sharing your stories, you will help communicate a contemporary view of who we are, what we do and how we contribute our expertise and caring to healing, wellness and health promotion, in every setting where health care is delivered and where people are who need care.

Remember, pictures and video help make a more genuine connection with readers, so before you hit send make sure you include your picture in the submission form below. Even better, capture your story on video and submit via the below submission form. All stories should be written in the form below. Unfortunately, we cannot publish links to news articles in the Year of Stories section on this site.

SHARING NURSES’ VOICES

ANA wants to recognize the nurses’ dedication, resilience and inspiration by showcasing your authentic stories. We encourage nurses to share stories about:

  • How you mentored new nurses or a how a nurse inspired you
  • How you are improving patient care
  • What being a nurse means to you
  • Why diversity is important to the future of nursing
  • How you and your colleagues are working together through the pandemic
  • How you stay positive at work, with the team and with patients
  • How you and your team of nurses come together and support one another

How to Create Your Video

  • Video Specs: Digital stories are usually short with the recommended length of two minutes. Make sure you record in high-definition video (1920 x 1080); if you use an HD camera set the video to shoot at 1080p.
  • Delivery: Speak clearly, in a strong and confident voice and make good eye contact with the camera.
  • Filming: Do a test video to ensure adequate lighting. Use a tripod or make sure the camera operator maintains a still position.
  • Saving your video: Save your video file as an .MP4, .MPEG, .AVI or .MOV file.
